Recently, we have the opportunity to work with one notable member from the urban dance community—JP Goldstein. JP is one of the original eight members from the famously known MOS Wanted Crew. Debuted from MTV's America's Best Dance Crew Season 7, its members included Brian Puspos, Bam Martin, Ian Eastwood, Jun Quemado, Jawn Ha, Lando Wilkins, JP Goldstein, and Ricky Cole. JP is also an alumni of many well respected teams such as Streetfam, Team Millennia, Mavyn, GRV, Boxcuttahz, UFX, and Urban Youth. Currently, he is in charge of his own dance project - Starfleet. During our recent meeting, JP shared his stories with us regarding his experience in China as a professional dancer. For four years, JP was working with Infinity Dance Production, a dance project he started in Beijing. This venture allowed him to establish great relationships with a number of entertainment companies in Asia. JP is currently working to establish his very own dance studio, Dance Space 9 (DS9), and is set to have its grand opening on Saturday August 29, 2015. We are very excited to have JP on board with us as our brand ambassador and we have some great plans ahead of us.
To help us get to know JP on a more personal level, we had the chance to conduct a brief interview with him.
What motivates you?
Everything motivates me. People, nature, life. But more than anything my family. My daughter. The best thing about me is her. My little princess.
Who or what inspired you to pursue your dream of becoming a professional dancer?
My family. They've really stood behind my dreams and helped me become who I am today. Dancer wise I'd have to say my good brother Stephen Twitch Boss.
If you could go back in time and tell the 12-year-old version of yourself something, what would it be and why?
Don't worry, you'll be ok. Just fight hard and never doubt any idea you come up with.
What is your style? What do you like to wear?
My style is.. no genre if I had to say. I appreciate everything that's out there so I just find what I like and flip it to my liking.
What does dance mean to you?
It means.. everything. It means life is rhythm and time. It means story, explanation of ones path. And expression of emotion, situation, desire. The list goes on. Dance is in my blood. It is my religion, while the floor is my church. And the music.. is my bible.
If you can give one advice to a starter who is passionate about dance, what would it be?
Train hard. This life of a dancer ain't easy.. but if you train hard and stay patient and really work to hone your kraft.. you'll do just fine. Oh and stay humble but stand up for what you want and believe in.
Do you have any upcoming projects that we can look forward to?
At this moment I'm currently building new projects with my company STVRFLEET COMMAND UNITED. Just wait.. you'll see. :)
Anything else you would like to say or include for our audience?
Remember one thing.. no matter what venture you choose to explore.. explore it fully and wisely. Believe in the You that is Now. To be the better You tomorrow.
